The Department of Environmental and Occupational Health of the School of Public Health (ESPUM) of the Université de Montréal is seeking an Assistant Professor who will work in the field of environmental or occupational health, with expertise in toxicology

The Department is looking for a professor to teach environmental health and toxicology at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

About the Department

With a young and dynamic faculty, the Department is composed of nine full-time university professors, as well as clinical professors, adjunct professors, lecturers and research professionals. The Department’s teaching and research activities cover a broad spectrum of environmental and occupational health, including risk analysis, toxicology, environmental epidemiology, global environmental health, occupational hygiene and occupational safety. In addition to offering graduate and post-graduate training in public health, including environmental and occupational health, the ESPUM also offers a Bachelor’s degree in environmental public health and occupational safety. The professors of the department work in close collaboration with the public health and occupational health network, in particular with the Institut national de santé publique du Québec, regional public health departments of Québec, Health Canada, the Institut de recherche Robert-Sauvé en santé et sécurité du travail du Québec and the private sector.

As a professor, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the promotion of excellence in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health of the School of Public Health

Through your teaching and research activities. You will also ensure the influence of your discipline in addition to actively participating in the functioning of a renowned institution. As such, your duties will include:

  • The development of a competitive research program in the above-mentioned field, which will contribute to the reputation of the Department in the scientific community;
  • Supervision of students at all levels;
  • Participation in the teaching of environmental health and toxicology at all levels;
  • Contribution to administration and the academic life of the institution.

To be successful in this role, you must

  • Have completed a PhD in environmental health or a related field, and have developed an expertise in toxicology and risk analysis;
  • Have completed a two-year post-doctoral fellowship or have at least two years of professional experience or equivalent;
  • Have research experience in the targeted field;
  • Have a good understanding of the place of environmental health in public health and the ability to work in interdisciplinarity;
  • Have sufficient knowledge of the French language or be determined to learn it once in position through the French language support program offered by UdeM, in accordance with the language policy of the Université de Montréal.
